Spivey Hall Schedule for Next Weekend

Clayton State University’s Spivey Hall will feature Friday and Saturday night performances by European artists, followed by a Sunday afternoon program by the Georgian Chamber Players, on the weekend of May 8 to May 10, 2009.

On Friday, May 8, Czech mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozená, accompanied by Karel Kosarek on the piano, will give an 8:15 p.m. concert, preceded by a pre concert talk at 7:15 p.m.

Kozená last appeared in Spivey Hall in 2006, when she sang arias by Gluck and Rameau with Les Violons du Roy in performances The Atlanta Journal-Constitution described as "ravishing." A highly sought-after recitalist with many superb recordings to her credit, Kozená was named 2004 "Artist of the Year" by Gramophone, with two different CDs winning "Best Recital" and "Best Vocalist" awards. In addition to appearing regularly at distinguished opera houses such as Milan's La Scala, London's Covent Garden and Berlin's Deutsche Staatsoper, she is a frequent guest artist of the world's greatest orchestras, and this summer opens one of Europe's most prestigious music festivals, in Lucerne, as featured soloist in Ravel's Shéhérazade under the baton of Claudio Abbado.

Her program for this time will include: PURCELL/BRITTEN Love Songs; SCHUMANN Frauenliebe und Leben; DUPARC L'Invitation au Voyage, Extase, Le Manoir de Rosemonde, Chanson triste, Phydile; BERG Sieben fruehe Lieder.
