Hours of rehearsal have prepared the Starr’s Mill High School “Cathedral Choir” for their April performance at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The National Cathedral is the premiere Cathedral in the United States and is considered the “National House of Prayer”.
The Starr’s Mill “Cathedral Choir”, under the direction of Dr. John Odom, will present a twenty-five minute, sacred, a cappella program in the Cathedral that will precede the Sunday, April 6th Evensong service. The choir will perform works ranging in music history from the Renaissance to present day. These choral works will include music by composers such as Pitoni, Scarlatti, Palestrina, Gasparini, Bach, Rachmaninoff, and John Rutter.
In preparation for this prestigious honor, the Cathedral Choir will present a Pre-National Cathedral Concert on Thursday, March 27th at the First Presbyterian Church of Peachtree City.
In addition to the previously mentioned music, the choir will premiere a choral piece which has been written especially for the choir’s performance at the National Cathedral. The text to the work, Prayer at Evensong was written by St. Louis poet Larry Brown and set to music by local choral musician, composer and arranger, Mike Dorough.
First Presbyterian Church is located at 206 Willow Bend Road. The concert will commence at 7:00 PM. Admission for this performance is free. The public is welcome to attend and is encouraged to show their support of these very talented musicians.
